Annecy
The Salesian Sisters opened this house, in a new estate in Limerick, in response to a need to provide a home for sisters who had to move from our home for the elderly which was being closed for renovations for a year.
It is a new experience for us, living in a residential area with many neighbours. While we carry on our work away from the area, it has been very important to us to be come 'one of the neighbours' to those around us. Although we have been hampered at times by the fact that our neighbours do not always remain long enough in the area to form friendly relationships and that, like most modern estates people leave early in the morning and return tired in the evening, we have become known, and can exchange greeting with everybody. We have invited our new friends to pray with us on a number of occasions. However, as you can imagine, our Salesian openness has met a great friendliness with the local children. They like to call to the door for a chat, help us sow flowers in the garden, share our company. Through them we also get to know their parents.
There are four of us in Community - well three at the moment as we have lent Anne to our house for the elderly for a while. (We live quite near, and consider it a privilege to visit the elderly, help with driving or other needs.)
Catherine goes daily from our house to her job as a Social Worker. She works with women, children and families.
Joan and Maureen, who have retired from teaching, both continue to work with the young in school or after-school situations, and in the Parish.
In our house all chores are shared, and as you can see, Christmas dinner, like all our meals is a time for sharing and relaxation.
Prayer together is our strength. Our small chapel and tabernacle is very important to us.
Call and visit us, we would love to see you. Catherine, Joan, Maureen.
