Our community consists of six Sisters working in a parish setting in the western suburbs of Dublin. Four of us teach in the local primary schools, while one is chaplain in Oberstown Education Centre and Trinity House School detention centres and one works in Adult education in Hardwicke Street Community Centre and in Bawnogue school.
Our work also includes parish ministry, preparation of children for the sacraments, Eucharistic Adoration, children's choir, "Rainbows", follow Your Dream Project, table-tennis coaching and a variety of clubs. Two of the Sisters are involved in organising Neighbourhood Retreats for the people of the parish. These are organised twice a year in Advent and Lent and many of the parishioners have found them very helpful.
Although the schools are not managed by the Salesian Sisters the feast of Don Bosco is an important occasion in Bawnogue parish. The children of the senior primary school have mass for the feast each year in the Parish Church, followed by a little surprise. They are helped to prepare for this by quizzes and stories of Don Bosco.
This year our mass will be on Monday February 1st, which will link Don Bosco, St. Bridget and prayer for the suffering people of Haiti.
This year we are inviting some of our nearest neighbours to celebrate the feast with us. We will pray, then share a simple meal and have a bit of fun together.
