Celebrating 40 Years of Life and Learning in Caherdavin, Limerick
Caherdavin, Limerick, Ireland – celebrating 40 years of life and learning in our school.

From December 20th – 22nd, the Salesian Girls’ Primary School in Caherdavin, Limerick celebrated 40 years of educational presence in this area of Limerick by presenting what they called a “Ruby Extravaganza Show”. Every pupil in the school from junior infants to 6th class was involved in what proved to be a lively, joyful and colourful performance, full of singing and dancing.  The songs were all taken from famous musicals.

The choreography and preparation was done by a talented past-pupil of our schools in collaboration with the teachers.

The concerts were attended by staff, parents, grandparents and many parishioners as the Salesian Sisters are very well inserted into the parish and local area.  There was also a strong presence of the FMA from neighbouring communities, including some who remember the beginnings very well. The school principal, a lay person, warmly welcomed all at the start but her words at the end were touching as she recalled the growth of the area in 1960’s leading to the establishment of the first school.  The original two classes began using a local Sports Hall while the school was being built and the sisters commuted daily because we had no community there.

She explained how she had received that Salesian spirit and how now, as the principal, she is trying to pass it on. It is still strong and alive and our hope is that it will continue so for many more years to come..
